A significant data leak concerning the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series has emerged, unveiling original plans for GTA Online dating back to 2001, as well as content that was cut from the game San Andreas.

According to GameRant, Rockstar Games continues to face challenges with data leaks related to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. On Christmas Day, a collection of internal documents, which include designs and development notes from various key projects such as GTA Online, were released online.

The leaked materials not only pertain to GTA Online but also contain insights about other iconic titles in the GTA series, including San Andreas, Vice City Stories, and GTA Advance. These documents were shared on the GTA Forum by a user known as Frankie Liberty. Among the notable findings is a 58-page design document titled GTA: Online, detailing concepts such as character creation, skill progression, and mission structures.

Former Rockstar Games employee Obbe Vermeij corroborated the authenticity of several documents, indicating that a design for a deathmatch mode for “gta3-online” was developed but ultimately shelved due to the extensive workload involved. He also mentioned that the Barking Dog team, which later became Rockstar Vancouver, produced design drafts for the project before it was canceled.

Additionally, the leaked documents provide intriguing information about older games in the series. For instance, GTA: San Andreas was initially intended to feature eight girlfriend characters, exceeding the two available in the final release. Further notes elaborate on map design and mission aspects related to Vice City Stories, alongside details about the “final product” of GTA Advance.

This leak arrives as the gaming community eagerly anticipates the release of the second trailer for GTA 6. While Rockstar has yet to make any formal announcements, speculation and theories about the release timeline are actively circulating among players.

This incident has once again raised concerns about the data security measures at Rockstar Games, particularly as this is not the first instance of such a breach occurring within the company.
