OpenAI has announced that it will be making its image generation feature available for free to all ChatGPT users. The ‘Deep Research’ capability, which was launched in early February, has until now only been accessible to subscribers of ChatGPT’s paid tiers, which include Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu accounts. This feature enables users to conduct comprehensive research tasks by automatically gathering and synthesizing information from various sources to generate in-depth reports within a timeframe of 5 to 30 minutes. Isa Fulford, a member of OpenAI’s engineering team, shared details about the upcoming rollout of the Deep Research feature during a recent live stream on X. While she confirmed that this feature will soon be available for free, she did not specify an exact timeline for the launch.
This strategic move by OpenAI comes as part of an effort to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape. Just two weeks prior, Google announced that it would be offering a comparable feature for free through its Gemini chatbot, a service that previously required a subscription to Google One.
