Microsoft has recently surprised free users of its Copilot feature by offering unlimited access to advanced AI models, specifically ChatGPT Pro.
In September 2025, Microsoft, through its significant investment in OpenAI, introduced the O1-Series of artificial intelligence models. These models are designed to spend more time analyzing before providing feedback, enabling them to tackle complex tasks and solve challenging problems across various fields, including science, programming, and mathematics.
In October, Microsoft launched a new Copilot feature called Think Deeper, specifically for users with Pro subscriptions. This feature utilizes OpenAI’s O1 theoretical models to help users navigate and resolve intricate problems. Initially, Think Deeper had usage limits, but Microsoft decided to remove these restrictions, allowing all Copilot users unlimited access to the advanced model after receiving positive feedback.
In addition, OpenAI introduced the O3-mini model, a more cost-effective AI version with performance comparable to the O1 model. OpenAI provides access to the O3-mini model for free to basic ChatGPT users, while those with paid subscriptions have the option to choose the O3-mini-High variant. Notably, subscribers to ChatGPT Pro can utilize both the O3-mini and O3-mini-High models without limitations.
Recently, Microsoft announced an upgrade to the Think Deeper feature, which now incorporates OpenAI’s latest O3-mini-High model. This expansion grants all Copilot users free access to AI reasoning tools that are on par with ChatGPT Pro.
Microsoft’s initiative aims to broaden access to powerful AI reasoning capabilities. However, despite offering these advanced AI models for free, Copilot faces challenges in attracting users when compared to ChatGPT. As a result, the company is implementing various promotional strategies, including leveraging Bing, to enhance its user base.
