In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Microsoft has launched a collection of free computer wallpapers for Windows users, marking the period from April 4, 1975, to April 4, 2025.

Over the last fifty years, Microsoft has significantly impacted the evolution of the workplace by making personal computers and cloud resources more accessible to users. As a token of appreciation, the company has introduced a diverse range of desktop wallpapers, including both static and animated options, various icons, and designs inspired by the classic game Solitaire.

In a recent blog post, Microsoft expressed its gratitude, stating, “As we prepare to celebrate our 50th anniversary, we honor the memories and games you’ve shared with us over the past five decades. This journey has only been possible because of you — players and developers around the world.”

Designers at Microsoft have come up with several creative concepts for this anniversary celebration. Notable designs include a retro wallpaper that features vintage Windows cursors, floppy disks, and the well-known Paperclip icon, which served as a precursor to modern AI assistants. Additionally, an anniversary wallpaper prominently displays the number 50 shaped like a spring tulip.

To commemorate 50 years of innovation, the company has also released specialized wallpapers inspired by Xbox. Moreover, a deck-style wallpaper and card backs have been created to celebrate Solitaire, a classic game included with every version of Windows.

While the Mahjong game was not referenced in this initiative, there is the possibility it may be included in future updates.

Users can access all high-resolution wallpaper options on Microsoft’s website, which also provides instructions on installing the live wallpapers and obtaining the icons. This announcement follows the recent decision by Microsoft founder Bill Gates to share a special “best source code he ever wrote” as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations.
