Microsoft is currently testing a redesigned version of the Start Menu for Windows 11, aimed at enhancing user experience. This new design replaces the existing two-part layout with a single, scrollable page that consolidates all applications, pinned items, and suggestions.
A key feature of this revamped Start Menu is the user’s ability to turn off unwanted suggestions and customize the layout according to personal preferences. This functionality is already accessible in the latest preview builds of Windows 11 available in the Dev and Beta channels, making it easier for users to navigate their installed apps without needing to click the “All” button as previously required.
To disable the Recommended section within the Start Menu, users can navigate to Settings > Personalization > Start and toggle off the option for “Show recommended files in Start, recent files in File Explorer, and items in Jump Lists.” It is important to note that disabling this option will also remove the recommended and recent files tabs from File Explorer, which may not be favorable for all users.
