Google is currently under scrutiny for allegedly attempting to undermine Microsoft’s cloud service through financial means. As reported by TechRadar Infrastructure Service Providers, there are claims that Google has been using significant financial resources to influence the Association of Cloud in Europe (CISPE) against its competitor, Microsoft.
The allegations suggest that Google offered CISPE a substantial incentive package worth millions of euros. This package included innovation funds, operational support, and software credits in exchange for CISPE’s continued pursuit of antitrust complaints against Microsoft.
In response to these accusations, Google has firmly denied any wrongdoing, stating that its financial support for CISPE is unrelated to any competitive actions against Microsoft. A spokesperson for Google emphasized the company’s intent to collaborate with CISPE to foster choice, innovation, and growth within Europe’s digital economy.
Previously, CISPE raised concerns regarding Microsoft’s software licensing terms, which were seen as unfair and restrictive for utilizing software on various cloud platforms. This situation culminated in a settlement that favored Google, resulting in Microsoft paying tens of millions of euros and granting CISPE access to an upgraded version of Azure.
Despite Google’s denials, Microsoft’s deputy general counsel, Rima Alaily, has expressed skepticism, suggesting that Google may be orchestrating efforts through CISPE and other organizations to execute a covert campaign against Microsoft.
This situation highlights the intense competition among major tech companies in the cloud services market. The question remains whether Google is genuinely acting in the spirit of collaboration or seeking to eliminate its competition through aggressive tactics.
