China’s DeepSeek AI is emerging as a formidable competitor in the global artificial intelligence market, challenging the established dominance of ChatGPT. As reported by GizChina, DeepSeek has made headlines by surpassing OpenAI in monthly website visits, marking a significant milestone in February 2025.

DeepSeek recorded approximately 525 million visits in February, slightly exceeding ChatGPT’s 500 million. This remarkable achievement reflects DeepSeek’s rapid growth and the increasing interest in its features and performance. Notably, by the end of January 2025, DeepSeek became the most downloaded free app in both the US and Chinese App Stores, surpassing ChatGPT in the US rankings.

Analytics from QuestMobile indicate that DeepSeek surpassed ChatGPT in daily active users on January 28, reaching 30 million users just a few days later on February 1. This rapid user acquisition established DeepSeek as the fastest app to achieve this milestone in the history of technology.

While DeepSeek still trails behind ChatGPT, which holds a substantial 43.16% traffic market share, it has quickly captured 6.58% of the global market share, positioning it third after Canva at 8.27%. This trend suggests that users are increasingly seeking alternatives to the OpenAI ecosystem.

DeepSeek’s rise signifies a shifting landscape in AI, and it remains to be seen whether it can sustain this growth and become a long-term competitor to ChatGPT. The initial success of DeepSeek indicates a competitive and evolving AI marketplace, highlighting the potential for innovation and user trust to shape the future of artificial intelligence.
