Chinese company UNIS Flash Memory has recently introduced two new SSD models, the S5 and S5 Ultra, both of which are positioned among the fastest SSDs available in the market today. With a remarkable read speed of up to 14,900 MB/s, these drives are engineered to meet the needs of high-end users requiring exceptional performance.
Both the S5 and S5 Ultra utilize 3D NAND TLC flash memory technology and come in an M.2 2280 form factor. Notably, the S5 includes a 1mm graphene heatsink that aids in maintaining optimal performance during operation.
Equipped with a PCIe 5.0 x 4 interface, the S5 competes well with established products from brands like Crucial and Samsung. While it does not include DRAM, the S5 employs Host Memory Buffer (HMB) and SLC caching technologies to achieve impressive read and write speeds. The S5 Ultra takes performance a step further with its advanced 6nm controller chip, delivering read and write speeds of 14,200 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s, respectively.
In terms of durability, the S5 Ultra is designed to handle workloads up to 2,400 TBW (terabytes written), making it suitable for demanding applications. The S5 is available in capacities of 1 TB and 2 TB, while the S5 Ultra offers options of 2 TB and 4 TB to cater to various storage requirements.
Although UNIS Flash Memory has yet to disclose pricing and release dates for these SSDs, the launch of the S5 and S5 Ultra is anticipated to make a significant impact in the SSD market, generating excitement among consumers eager to experience the speed and performance these drives promise.
