A recent report from CPU-Z highlights significant developments in the CPU market, revealing a marked increase in AMD’s market share, alongside a decline for both Intel and Nvidia. As of April 1, 2025, AMD has achieved a notable 16.6% share of the global CPU market. In contrast, Intel’s share has decreased by 10%, indicating that AMD is closing the gap with its traditional competitor.
According to Wccftech, one of the primary drivers of AMD’s growth is the popularity of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor, which has emerged as the leading processor on the CPU-Z platform. This model accounts for 4.3% of all CPUs validated on the platform, with the Ryzen 5 5600X following at 2.1%.
The report also notes a surge in the adoption of 8-core CPUs, which now constitute 24.7% of built systems—an impressive 32.6% increase compared to the same period last year. Other common configurations include 6-core CPUs at 22.5%, 4-core CPUs at 19.4%, and 2-core CPUs at 9.6%.
In terms of motherboard platforms, the AM5 socket has seen an extraordinary growth rate of 144.9% year-on-year, now holding 15.1% of the market share. Although it still trails behind the AM4 socket, which has a 20.1% share (down 11% from the previous year), users are favoring more popular chipsets over high-end models like the X870/X870E due to their compatibility with the Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors.
Furthermore, AMD’s expansion extends beyond CPUs, as the company has also made gains in the GPU market. AMD’s share of the graphics card market has increased by 16.6%, while Nvidia has experienced a decline of 6.4%. Although Nvidia remains the market leader, AMD’s continued growth since 2021 suggests that it is steadily narrowing the gap.
