Microsoft has closed the loophole that allowed users to upgrade from Windows 7ย and 8ย to Windows 10 and 11 using old license keys. Initially, Windows 10 was offered as aย free upgrade for Windows 7ย and 8ย users. However, even after the offer expired, users could still upgrade without purchasing aย new key. This issue has now been fixed by Microsoft.
Microsoft officially announces that customers can no longer upgrade their Windows 7/8/8.1 to Windows 10 or 11 for free through the Device Partner Center.
You can still activate Windows 11 using aย Windows 7ย product key, except for the latest Insider build. Microsoft may soon block this option and require newer keys for upgrading. Windows 10 product keys can still activate Windows 11 if used on eligible PCs. Upgrading to Windows 11 is aย straightforward process similar to previous feature updates for Windows 10.
